The city's Gran Vía hosted the 5th Madrid International Race Walking, a Gold event on the World Athletics Race Walking Tour, which brought together many of the sport's leading international figures in a unique setting. I was only away for two years, but I soon made up for it with other "Cantones" visits for friends' birthdays. Mexico’s Alegna González and China’s Shi Shengji were victorious at the Gran Premio Cantones, a World Athletics Race Walking Tour Gold meeting, held in La Coruña on Saturday (23). Contesting the half marathon, world 20km silver medallist González achieved her first win in Cantones, while 19-year-old Shi became the first Chinese race walker to triumph in the Spanish coastal city since Wang Zhen in 2016. A bit small number for a race that is part of the Race Walking Tour - Gold Label and has almost always been one of the most popular events among European athletes in recent years. The first part of the race saw a group composed of Hayato Katsuki (JPN), Jordy Arrobo (ECU), and Perseus Karlstrom (SWE), who, after the first 1,095m lap in 4:32, ran the following laps between 3:59 and 4:06 per lap. Report by Paul Warburton for World Athletics There was a double surprise at the Dudinska 50 – a World Athletics Race Walking Tour Gold meeting – in Dudince, Slovakia, on Saturday (7) as Bence Venyercsán won the men’s marathon and Evelyn Inga upstaged the favourites in the women’s half marathon. In the other senior races, Perseus Karlström cruised to victory in the men’s half marathon, while Sofia Ramos Rodríguez won the women’s marathon.
