This time on a new course, with spectacular views, in one of the most beautiful areas of the city, it will wind along Avenida de la Marina and the Muelle Darsena de Oza. The location is a few minutes' walk from the Hotel Eurostar Atlantico (Avenida do Porto 4), which, as in the past two years, will host athletes, companions, and judges. There will be a…

Italy returns from Brasilia, where the 2026 edition of the World Team Race Walking Championships (formerly the IAAF World Cup and, before that, the old Lugano Trophy) took place last Sunday, with a remarkable medal haul. The most historic result was achieved by Francesco Fortunato in the new Half Marathon Race Walk, marking the first victory of an Italian in this type of Championship after 65 years. The first victory dates back to 1961, when Abdon Pamich (now 92, having been born on October 3, 1933 and recent "star" in TV) won the 50km walk in Lugano (SUI). But the most impressive result, and in our opinion the one that most thrilled us, was that of a debutant in the national absolute team: Sofia Fiorini. She is originally from…

Ethiopia’s Misgana Wakuma delivered a historic performance at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Brasília, winning silver in the men’s half-marathon race walk with a time of 1:27:33—the best result ever achieved by an African man at the global event. The landmark achievement also secured Ethiopia’s first-ever international race walking medal, marking a major milestone for the country’s athletics program. According to the Ethiopian Athletics Federation, Wakuma’s podium finish marked the first time an Ethiopian athlete has claimed a medal in an international race walking competition. Ethiopia recorded additional encouraging results during the championships. In the women’s 10km race, Hiwot Ambaw finished 9th with a personal best time of 48:52, while Yasin Abduselam Abdulwahab placed 11th in the men’s 10km, also setting a personal best of 42:21.…

Viktoria Madaraz (HUN) banned four years from competitions for doping violations

On November 8, 63 BC, Marcus Tullius Cicero pronounced the following famous opening sentence in his first hearing before the Roman Senate assembled in the Temple of Jupiter Stator in his Catilinarian work: “Quo usque tandem abutere, Catilina, patientia nostra? quam diu etiam furor iste tuus nos eludet? quem ad finem sese effrenata iactabit audacia?”  (How far, Catiline, will you abuse our patience? How long will this fury of yours elude us? To what end will your unbridled audacity flaunt itself?). How long, dear athletes, will you continue to abuse our patience and continue to boldly push yourselves, furiously attempting to escape intellectual honesty through doping practices ? Today, Athetes Integrity Unity, in its March 2026 bulletin, punished athlete Viktoria Madaraz (HUN) with a four-year ban from competitions for…

Points of view. You again, weren’t we supposed to see each other again?

Editor news
In the latest issue (151) of the online magazine "Trekkenfild," one of the most interesting journalists covering the Italian race walking scene, Walter Brambilla, published an article with a provocative title. The article included a brief, somewhat critical dissertation on statements made to another newspaper by the athlete who won the race. We have taken the liberty of translating the article so that our international readers can gain a firsthand understanding of the topic. There are essentially two key points: - Almost all Italian newspapers covering the race walk held in Alessandria on March 8th consistently emphasized the return to racing at the age of 41 of the 2008 Beijing 50km Olympic Champion. Much has been read about his return to racing, and just as much has been speculated…

At risk of closure, but now it’s reborn: the new “Marcia dal Mondo” website is online.

Editor news
To our readers We left off towards the end of February this year with the closure of our Marcia dal Mondo website after nearly 20 years of activity. The decision wasn't an easy one for us, but it was almost inevitable. In fact, the Company that had designed the website and managed the hosting had decided to close this type of business, and we quickly had to decide whether to continue or abandon this adventure, dedicating ourselves solely to the Facebook group. The social network gave us the ability to communicate very quickly, but subsequent searches were more complicated for those who, like us, wanted to search for results over time and other news. We almost decided to give up, when an unexpected offer arrived from Stefano La Sorda, offering…
