On your marks, off we go, and a record is immediately achieved in the track race that opens the weekend at the PalaCasali. Serena Di Fabio is the joyous winner, breaking her Italian U20 record with a time of 12:40.77 in the 3000m walk, six seconds faster than last winter’s 12:46.60.

For the third consecutive year, the Pescara native, trained in Chieti by coach Nicola Piro, returns from Ancona with a best national performance in the series she began as U20, clocking 13:19.92, but it’s the first time she’s achieved this feat at an Italian Championship. The silver medalist at the U20 European Championships this summer, following her U18 continental gold medal in 2024 of the Fiamme Azzurre team said: “Starting with another record is really nice. We’re continuing to work hard and are on a growth path. It will be a long, varied, and fun season: I hope to manage my strength well throughout the year and arrive fully charged for the U20 World Championships in Eugene in August, not forgetting the World Team Championships in Brasilia in April.Francesca Buselli (13:29.39) and former U18 Valentina Adamo (13:37.25) also made progress.

Among the U23 athletes, Giulia Gabriele confirmed her performance, coming close to a personal best with 12:31.81, closely followed by Michelle Cantò who in 12:34.13 became the third best Italian U23 ever, while Elisa Marini completed the podium with her debut time of 12:57.41.

Alessio Coppola (Fiamme Oro) performed admirably in the men’s U20 5000m: the Trieste native shaved almost a minute off his personal best with 19:30.77, moving up to third place in the all-time Italian U20 best, four seconds off the best.

Nicolò Vidal also improved to PB 20:21.46, while Filippo Gorelli (21:34.77) emerged victorious in the battle for third place. A solo race for European U20 walker-up Giuseppe Disabato: the Apulian making his debut as U23, finished in 19:33.29, followed by Omar Moretti (20:20.00) and Alessandro Rebosio (20:50.66)
