Men event

Francesco Fortunato takes the crown in the 5000m indoor walk at the Italian Championships in Ancona: 17:54.48 at the PalaCasali, a world record.
“I’m pleased with myself,” said Francesco, who won his ninth Italian title in this sprint specialty, his 19th overall. “After the unfortunate misadventure of 2025, when the record wasn’t validated due to a formality involving the number of judges, I thought I deserved it today. I was here to try again, knowing my condition wasn’t the same, also due to a bad flu that delayed my preparation in January. But I didn’t give up, and I want to thank myself first and foremost, and my new coach, Luca Zenti. Now I can focus on the half marathon walk and will make my debut at the World Team Championships in Brasilia on April 12.”
1st place: Francesco Fortunato (17:54.48) New World Record – split times: 3:40.1 – 7:18.0 (3:37.9) – 10:52.9 (3:34.9) – 14:26.8 (3:27.88)
