Italian National U18 Championships Short Track – Ancona (ITA)

Short report

Cristian Cecchetto made a great debut among the youth athletes.

A few months after his title and the U16s record, he won the Italian championship U18 in 21:14.22, becoming the fifth fastest U18 walker in Italy and, more importantly, the best ever in his first year in the category.

In the 5000m walk, the talented athlete took the lead with four laps to go when Riccardo Rabai (21:37.92) was stopped for thirty seconds in the penalty zone. Lucio Di Lizio (22:05.45) finished third.

In the final kilometer, Anita Marchi took off in the 3000m walk in 13:38.95 and celebrated her first Italian championship among the U18, to add to the two titles won among the U16s.

Almost five seconds of improvement for the Paduan from Torreglia, trained by Marco Franchin in collaboration with Mattia Zanchin and started on the heel and toe by Gianni Squarcina, who consolidated her fifth position in the all-time lists, while for second place Rebecca D’Alessandro dropped to 13:52.98, eighth all-time, ahead of the U16 champion Caterina Carissimi third in 14:04.28.
