Va subito in testa alla gara un gruppo composto da sette atlete: Erica Rocha De Sena (BRA), Ilse Ariadna Guerrero Rodarte (MEX), Sandra Lorena Arenas Campuzano (COL), Kimberly Garcia Leon (PER), Karla Johanna Jaramillo Navarrete (ECU), Noelia Vargas (CRC) e Magali Bonilla Solis (ECU).
I passaggi sono i seguenti:

- 6km: De Sena - 26:28 (8:47)
Ai 6 km sono rimaste in quattro a guidare la gara: Erica De Sena (BRA), Sandra Lorena Arenas (COL), Kimberly Garcia Leon (PER) e Ilse Ariadna Guerrero Rodarte (MEX) che hanno distanziato le altre di qualche secondo.
Situazione tecnica: Karla Johanna Guerrero (1 red crad) e Magali Bonilla Solis (2 red card) Miranda Melville (3 red cards).
Continua l’andatura delle prime che hanno anche distanziato la messicana Guerrero Rodarte.

Poco dopo gli 8km viene squalificata Magali Bonilla Solis, ECU (4 red cads: 1 sbloccaggio e 3 contatti).
Anche Robyn Stevens, Usa ha 1 red card per bloccaggio. Nel gruppo di testa una red card (bloccaggio) per Kimberly Garcia (PER).
A metà gara la situazione in testa alla gara non cambia: sempre le tre atlete al comando. Segue a 22” Ilse Ariadna Guerrero Rodarte (MEX) e poi a 52” Noelia Vargas (CRC)
- 10km: De Sena - 44:12 (8:56) con però una red card a suo carico
- 12km: De Sena - 53:00 (8:48). La situazione delle tre leader rimane immutata. A 47” la Messicana (Guerrero Rodarte), mentre Angela Melania Castro Chirivechz (BOL) passa in quinta posizione (54:36) dopo aver superato sia Karla Johanna Jaramillo Navarrete (ECU) che Noelia Vargas (CRC).
Ai 14 km sempre in testa Erica De Sena, ma con lei è rimasta solamente Sandra Lorena Arenas, Mentre Kimberly Garcia Leon perde qualche metro (5”).

Anche Miranda Melville (USA) è stata squalificata.
Ai 16km passa in testa Sandra Lorena Arenas (COL) che ha fatto un giro in 8:37. Erica de Sena cerca di resistere, ma cede circa 6” (1:10:36) e per di più subisce e una pesante situazione tecnica (3 red cards) e verrà fermata nella penalty area. Continua in terza posizione a 28” Kimberly Garcia Leon (1:10:58)
- 16km: Arenas - 1:10:30 (8:37). De Sena - 1:10:36 (8:43)
Ormai sola in testa alla gara Sandra Lorena Arenas (COL) fa un giro tra i 16 ed i 18km in 8:40
- 18km: Arenas - 1:10:10 (8:40)
Sale in seconda posizione Kimberly Garcia Leon (PER) in 1:20:03 distanziata di 53”.
Per pochi secondi, nonostante la sosta di 2:00 nella zona di penalità (voleva abbandonare, ma è stata sollecitata a continuare) Erica De Sena riesce a rientrare in gara e passare in 1:21:19. I suo vantaggio su Ilse Ariadna Guerrero Rodarte è di soli 4”.
Dietro la situazione non è cambiata.
