Il percorso in certe parti un po’ stretto, presenta delle rotaie al centro della strada sulle quali, per non scivolare, è stata stesa una lunga fune: certamente un percorso un po’ sotto tono per un Campionato Europeo, che non agevola per altro il lavoro dei giudici.
Si ferma subito il greco Aleksandros Papamihail che con problemi fisici era partito solo per onor di firma.
In testa subito Ruslan Dmytrenko, Massimo Stano, Giorgio Rubino, Miguel Angel Lopez e Aleksandr Ivanov.

Vengono coperti in 20:31 con il gruppo guidato da Ruslan Dmytrenko, Giorgio Rubino, Miguel Angel Lopez e Aleksandr Ivanov.
Ai 6 Km. passano in 24:36 con a guidare il gruppo Denis Strelkov.
Un solo intervento della giuria fino ad ora a carico del norvegese Havard Haukese per sbloccaggio del ginocchio.
Perde terreno uno dei più accreditati per tempo, il polacco Rafal Fedaczynski, mentre il Russo Aleksandr Ivanov prende l’iniziativa.
Passano agli 8 km in 32.40 con in testa il francese Kevin Campion.

Intanto il norvegese Haukese già gravato da due proposte di squalifica viene squalificato, mentre una ne hanno il Lituanuo Savelskis (mancanza di contatto) e il Lettone Rumbenielks (sbloccaggio del ginocchio).

Sono coperti in 40:43 con Dmytrenko in testa: gli altri, Kevin Campion, Giorgio Rubino, Miguel Angel Lopez, Alvaro Martin, Christopher Linker denis Strelkov e Aleksandr Ivanov.
Matteo Giupponi è 19° (41:15) e Massimo Stano è 24° (42:22).
Una red card anche per l’ungherese Mate Helebrand (mancanza di contatto).
Dopo l’11° km allunga Miguel Angel Lopez mentre cede un po’ Rubino.
Al 12° restano in sei e passano in 48:35 con in testa Ivanov (ultimi 2.000m in 7:53). Rubino è a 7” e gravato da una proposta di squalifica per mancanza di contatto.
Miguel Angel Lopez forza l’andatura e sembra che Dmytrenko soffra, mentre i due Russi restano attaccati, assieme al tedesco Chistopher Linke (3:53 ultimo km).
La lotta per le medaglie sembra ridotta a questi cinque.
ma subito dopop restano in quattro perché Linke perde terreno.

Ai 16 km il passaggio è in 1:04:23, mentre coprono il 17° km in 1:08.20.
Sempre a fare il ritmo Miguel Angel Lopez che è sempre molto bello da vedere.
Rubino è 7° in 1:05:14, dietro a Alvaro Martin (ESP) anche lui gravato da una red card per mancanza di contatto, che passa in 1:05:00.
A due km. dalla fine (1:12:16 ai 18 km) va in testa Ivanov, seguito da Lopez, Dmytenko e Strelkov.
Forza l’andatura Miguel Angel Lopez e lo segue Ivanov, ma Dmytenko e Strelkov non mollano.
Un finale incandescente premia giustamente Miguel Angel Lopez (1:19:44) davanti a Aleksandr Ivanov (1:19:45) e Denis Strelkov (1:19:46) e Ruslan Dmytrenko (1:19:47) con una proposta di squalifica ricevuta nell'ultimo chilometro. Gira che ti rigira i Russi partono in due e arrivano due medaglie.
Gli Italiani: Giorgio Rubino è 8° in 1:22:07, Matteo Giupponi è 19° in 1:25:04, Massimo Stano è 26° in 1:26:14.

La gara inizia alle ore 9:00 anziché come previsto alle ore 9:10, e partono subito in testa i due atleti Russi Mikhail Ryzhov, Ivan Noskov.

Il passaggio vede in testa il Francese Yohann Diniz e i due Russi Mikhail Ryzhov, Ivan Noskov che guidano in 43:44.
Seguono in 44:08 il Campione del Mondo Robert Heffernan assieme allo Slovacco Matej Toth e al Polacco Grzegorz Sudol.
A 44:31 segue un gruppetto con Ihor Hlavan (UKR) Lukasz Nowak (POL), Aleksandr Yargunkin (RUS) e Olekseiy Kazanin (UKR).

Diniz guida al 40° in 2:51:12 (parziale di 41:52) e dietro a lui Mikhail Ryzhov in 2:51:51 (parziale di 42:37). Si sente profumo di record di record del mondo.

Vince per la terza volta di seguito Yohann Diniz in 3:32:33 (nuovo record mondiale), che si permette il lusso di fermarsi alcuni secondi per prendere la bandiera del Portogallo dove va ad allenarsi in inverno.
Secondo è Matej Toth in 3:36:21 (National record).
Terzo il Russo Ivan Noskov che ha superato il connazionale Ryzhov nel finale. Il tempo per Noskov: 3:37:41. Quarto è Mikhail Ryzhov in 3:39:07. Quinto l'ucraino Ivan Banzeruk 3:44:49 davanti a Ihor Hlavan in 3:45:08, ma soprattutto davanti ad uno splendido Marco de Luca che finisce settimo in 3:45:25.
Ottavo l'inossidabile Jesus Angel Garcia in 3:45:41.
Il risultato di Marco de Luca, oltre ad essere il Personal best (precedente di 3:46:31), è veramente un risultato molto interessante per la 50 km. italiana: complimenti all'atleta ed al suo allenatore Patrizio Parcesepe.
Gli altri Italiani: Teodorico Caporaso è 20° in 3:58:23 (Personal Best), mentre Jean Jacques Nkouloukidi è 22° in 4:01:12.
