20 Km. uomini
Arriva dalla marcia la prima medaglia azzurra ai Campionati Europei di Barcellona. E' l'argento (1h20:38) conquistato oggi dal campione olimpico della 50 km di marcia Alex Schwazer. Il carabiniere altoatesino, al via della 20 km, gara d'apertura dell'evento continentale, si è dovuto arrendere solo al giovane russo Stanislav Emelyanov (1h20:18) che, dopo gli ori iridati vinti da allievo nel 2007 e da junior nel 2008 con tanto di primato del mondo under 20 sui 10 km (38:28) nel 2009, si aggiudica il suo primo titolo in una rassegna internazionale di livello assoluto. Bronzo al portoghese Vieira (1h20:49), mentre è finito al quinto posto il finanziere romano Giorgio Rubino (1h22:12). Ritirato, invece, pochi chilometri dopo il giro di boa, l'altro azzurro Ivano Brugnetti, rimasto fino a quel momento nel gruppetto degli inseguitori. Ora, come nelle dichiarate intenzioni di Schwazer alla vigilia degli Europei, lo attende la partecipazione alla 50 km del 30 luglio.
LA CRONACA
Otto e zero cinque in punto a Barcellona. Ventisette uomini sulla linea di partenza di Passeig Picasso e un colpo di pistola che dà inizio alla loro marcia. Alex Schwazer si lancia subito in testa. Con lui se ne vanno il diciannovenne, miglior ventista russo del 2010, Emelyanov e il veterano romeno Casandra che tenta un'iniziativa che si rivelerà presto un azzardo. Sono loro tre in testa, con a distanza il gruppo degli inseguitori dove sono ben riconoscibili le canotte bianche degli altri due azzurri Brugnetti e Rubino. Insieme a loro viaggiano l'irlandese Heffernan, il portoghese Vieira, il russo Krivov e il bielorusso Simanovich. Sono passati 4 km e i battistrada restano in due: Schwazer ed Emelyanov che viaggiano intorno al ritmo di 4:02.
A ridosso dei 30 minuti di gara, nei pressi dell'ottavo chilometro, Emelyanov subisce una prima proposta di squalifica e rimane da solo davanti, mentre Schwazer butta un occhio al cronometro e rientra nel gruppo insieme a Brugnetti e Rubino che intanto si sono fatti sotto. I tre azzurri ora marciano insieme. Al giro di boa si evidenzia il vantaggio del giovane russo che passa ai 10 km in 40:14. 12 secondi più indietro il resto degli avversari con i tre italiani sempre affiancati da Simanovich, Heffernan e João Vieira. Quando sono trascorsi 45:50, Ivano Brugnetti sfila fuori dal gruppo e chiude prima del tempo la sua marcia. Superato il 14 km, Schwazer (56:27), che in quel momento è secondo, prova a staccarsi, ma non lo lascia andare via da solo il portoghese Vieira (56:29) e così tra i due comincia una lotta all'isenguimento di Emelyanov, 15 secondi davanti a tutti (56:12). Sesto Rubino (56:43), ma al 15° km un triplo rosso mette fuori Simanovich, e così il finanziere romano recupera una posizione. Inarrestabile Emelyanov che macina metri e secondi di vantaggio sul resto della concorrenza: al 18° km passa in 1h12:09, con Vieira e Schwazer che restano dietro a 1h12:43 a giocarsi le altre due medaglie.
La musica non cambia fino all'arrivo, vince Emelyanov in 1h20:18, Schwazer si prende l'argento dopo una rimonta conclusa in 1h20:38 e il bronzo a Vieira (1h20:49). Giorgio Rubino è quinto (1h22:12), preceduto dall'irlandese Heffernan (1h21:00).
50 Km. uomini
Un incredibile Yohan Diniz vince la 50 Km. dei Campionati Europei dopo una gara in testa dal primo metro in 3:40:37. Secondo il polacco Grzegorz Sudol (3:42:24) al personal best, terzo in russo Sergey Bakulin (3:43:26) anch'egli al personal best, quarto l'irlandese Robert Heffernan (3:45:30) al record nazionale irlandese della 50 Km., seguito dall'inossidabile spagnolo Jesus Angel Garcia Bragado (3:45:30) alla miglior prestazione stagionale e da Marco de Luca (3:48:36) anch'egli alla miglior prestazione stagionale.
Alex Schwazer si è ritirato per crampi poco dopo il 38° km. Fra i ritirati il primi due atleti dei Campionati Mondiali di Berlino Sergey Kyrdiapkin (RUS) e Trond Nymark (NOR). Un solo commento tecnico: l'irlandese Robert Heffernan (4° nella 20 Km. in 1:21:00 e 4° nella 50 Km. in 3:45:30) marciando in fluidità e correttamente è riuscito a raggiungere l'obiettivo che si era posto Alex Schwazer e che i più ritenevano irraggiungibile; gli è mancata solamente la medaglia: complimenti.

5km - Un violento temporale notturno ha rinfrescato la temperatura, innalzando però il tasso di umidità relativa. Alla partenza il cielo è nuvoloso ma non piove, ed il percorso presenta qualche pozza d'acqua, in particolare ai lati. Il francese Yohan Diniz, il campione europeo di Goteborg 2006, parte a razzo, va in testa in solitaria e transita ai primi 5 chilometri in 22:12. Insegue un gruppetto con tutti i migliori (compresi Alex Schwazer, Marco De Luca e il campione del mondo di Berlino 2009, il russo Kirdyapkin), a 53 secondi di ritardo, in 23:05.
10km - Diniz prende un giallo al sesto chilometro (sospensione), ma la cosa non produce sostanziali effetti dal punto di vista del ritmo di gara. Dietro il gruppetto, sceso a sette unità, continua a tenere il francese nel mirino: guida Kirdyapkin, con il connazionale Bakulin, seguono De Luca e Schwazer, il norvegese Nymark, il polacco Sudol e il finlandese Kinnunen. Diniz passa al decimo chilometro in 44:23, gli inseguitori a poco meno di un minuto, in 45:19.
15km - Appena passato il decimo chilometro, i russi prendono l'iniziativa, nel senso che il ritmo viene leggermente incrementato. Ne pagano le conseguenze prima Kinnunen, poi Nymark. Gli inseguitori rimangono in cinque: i due russi, i due italiani e il polacco. Dalle retrovie si muove anche lo spagnolo Garcia Bragado, un'isituzione della specialità, con i suoi quasi 41 anni d'età, e cliente sempre pericolosissimo nella fasi finali di gara. In testa, in realtà, Diniz continua ad accumulare vantaggio, perché il suo ritmo è ancora cresciuto: transita ai 15 in 1h06:16, che vuol dire una frazione da 21:52 nei 5 km. Gli inseguitori passano a 1:09, in 1h07:25 (22:06).
20km - Diniz continua ad accumulare vantaggio, attestandosi intorno all'1:20 di margine. Il suo passaggio ai 20km è di 1h28:09 (ancora 21:53). Il quintetto passa 1:26 (1h29:35, 22:10), con Marco De Luca che riguadagna il contatto dopo qualche momento di difficoltà. I due russi fanno sempre il ritmo, Schwazer si fa portare senza mai intervenire al comando, come il polacco Sudol. 25km - Alex Schwazer si ferma intorno al 21esimo chilometro per il classico bisogno fisiologico, e ritorna in gara con circa 30 secondi di svantaggio sugli inseguitori. Ma l'altoatesino impiega solo un paio di giri per ritornare con i compagni di gara, dimostrando l'efficienza auspicata. De Luca continua a fare un po' l'elastico in coda al gruppetto, staccandosi e poi riguadagnando il contatto. Al 23esimo però la frattura tra il romano e gli altri diventa profonda: Schwazer, in risalita, lo passa, ma De Luca non reagisce. Diniz è regolare in testa, e in piena gestione del suo vantaggio, salito a circa 1:40.
Passa ai 25 km in 1h49:56 (21:47), il quartetto (con Schwazer, i due russi e Sudol) passa sul traguardo a 1:45 (1h51:41, 22:06), De Luca (sesto) a 1:51.
30km - Mentre Diniz non sembra perdere un colpo, nel poker di inseguitori prende l'iniziativa il russo Bakulin, che allunga la fila. Schwazer è tranquillo, così come il polacco Sudol, mentre Kirdyapkin appare in leggera crisi, e chiude il gruppetto. Bakulin è un martello, ma l'unica cosa che riesce a ottenere è il distacco del compagno di maglia. Diniz passa ai 30km in 2h11:53 (21:56 nella frazione di 5km), il terzetto Bakulin, Schwazer e Sudol in 2h13:38, a 1:45 (21:57), Kirdyapkin a tre secondi, De Luca passa al sesto posto in 2h14:09 (22:22).
35km - Nessuna variazione. E' di 2h33:45, il tempo di Diniz ai 35 chilometri, con una frazione di 5km da 21:52 che dice una cosa sola: non sarà facile riprendere il francese, a meno di rovesci imprevisti. Gli inseguitori, ai quali si è aggiunto l'irlandese Heffernan, doppiato, transitano a 1:49. Il problema sta nel fatto che nessuno sembra intenzionato a prendere davvero sul serio l'iniziativa, meno che meno Schwazer, che si affida alle sortite dei compagni d'avventura. 2h35:34 il tempo del passaggio, con frazione di 5km in 21:56. De Luca è sempre sesto, in 2h36:57 (22:48).
38km - La brutta notizia arriva a 2h44 di gara: Alex Schwazer si ferma e comincia a toccarsi, anzi, a percuotersi, i flessori della coscia destra. Riprende subito, ma si ferma immediatamente. La cosa si ripete più volte, poi l'azzurro riprende a marciare, ma il volto è una maschera, l'azione rallentata. Un calvario che dura praticamente tutto un giro, senza però che l'altoatesino si fermi definitivamente. Alla conclusione del giro, però, Schwazer abbandona.
40km - De Luca è in rimonta, supera anche Kirdyapkin ed è quarto, mentre davanti, Diniz (2h55:30) continua la sua marcia senza perdere un secondo, e il russo Bakulin, attacca il polacco Sudol per l'argento (2h57:19). De Luca però gioisce per poco: subisce il sorpasso dello spagno Garcia, in rimonta come da previsione, e passa al quarantesimo chilometro al quinto posto, in 3h00:46.
45km - Succede praticamente di tutto, tra sorpassi e crisi. Diniz non è più una macchina, anzi. Con la vista annebbiata, al rifornimento, colpisce con un piede il marciapiede e cade per terra, si rialza e riprende: il margine di vantaggio, del resto, gli consente di fronteggiare anche di questi problemi. Ma il volto è una maschera. Dietro, il russo Bakulin ha staccato il polacco ed è secondo, mentre la battaglia per il quarto posto premia momentaneamente l'irlandese Heffernan, che ha evidentemente beneficiato del traino dei migliori, ed è risalito fino ai piedi del podio. Lo segue Garcia Bragado (quinto), mentre De Luca è sesto.
Traguardo - Yohan Diniz compie l'impresa tagliando il traguardo in 3h40:37. Il polacco Sodul è secondo a sorpresa, con una bella rimonta, terzo è Bakulin. Marco De Luca è ottimo sesto, nella scia dell'applauditissimo Garcia Bragado. L'azzurro chiude in un buon 3h48:36, ancora una volta tra i primi otto di una prova internazionale.
