17/12/2024   Aigar Fadejev (LAT) passed away at 49

We received this sad news from a mutual friend.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce that today, the 17th December 2024, our beloved father, husband and son Aigar Fadejev passed away. Aigar would have turned 49 on December 27
His birthday is when the light returns to the world and his life was also like this time - full of energy and movement.
Aigar loved life, sports, people. And his life was a movement. That came to a fast stop.
We ask fellow citizens to respect our family's privacy at this time of bereavement.

In 2000, Fadejev won a silver medal at the Sydney Olympics in the 50-kilometer walk.

In 1998, he won a silver medal at the European Championships in the 20-kilometer walk, and a year before that he became the European U23 champion.

His best result at the World Championships 2001 was fourth place in 50-kilometer walk.

Fadejev currently holds several Latvian records in walking.

After the end of his sports career, Fadejev worked as a physiotherapist, including working with world stars such as basketball player Kobe Bryant.

Fadejev was born on December 27, 1975 in Valka, and participated in three Olympic Games during his career. In 1996 in Atlanta he was sixth in the 20-kilometer walk, in 2000 in Sydney he won a silver medal in the 50 kilometers and 14th place in the 20 kilometers, and in 2004 in Athens he was 11th and 9th place respectively in these distances.
