07/12/2024   Former Race Walker Curt Clausen Is new USATF President

The 2024 USATF Annual Meeting is taking place in Orlando, Florida.

Vin Lanana's term as president comes to an end this year, and a new president will be elected at the 2024 Annual Meeting.

Curt Clausen and Mike Conley, two international athletes from Team USATF, are the candidates for the organization's highest elected office.

Earlier, Curt Clausen (USA) prevailed over his opponent with 56.7% of the votes against 43.3% of the votes in favor of Olympic triple jump champion Mike Conley.

Born in Stevens Point on October 9, 1967, he was one of the great US walkers of the decade between 1995 and 2005.

He competed in all distances, but achieved the best results of his career in the 50km walk.

In this discipline he won the title of US National Champion twice (in 2003 in Hauppauge in 4:29:32 and in 2005 in Clermont in Florida in 4:09:36.

His best season however was in 1979.

That year Curt Clausen achieved a personal best on the distance with a time of 3:48:04 arriving 11th at the then World Cup held on 2.5.199 in Mezidon in France.

Also in the same season he obtained the most important result of his career this time on the circuit of La Cartuja in Seville (ESP) where he obtained the bronze (albeit posthumously after two years following the disqualification for doping of German Skurigyn, RUS) at the 1999 World Championships won by Ivano Brugnetti (ITA) in 3:47:54, followed by Nikolaj Matyukin (RUS) in 3:48:18. On that occasion Curt Clausen achieved a time of 3:50:55 and was the author of a memorable race

Another important result was obtained at the World Championships in Edmonton (CAN) in 2001 where he finished 7th in 3:50:46

When a former athlete obtains a Presidency of such a high level it is always good news.

Today, since Curt Clausen is a former race walker it is even more so.

Good work Curt
