It will still be night in Europe when the 71st New Year's Race Walking Tournament was held in Tokyo around the Jingu Gaien, Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery, also valid as the 85th Race Walking Tournament of the Tokyo Region Championship.

The course was designed as a lap of 1.350m and the athletes have to cover:

- 3km youth: 300m + 2 laps 

- 5km master: 950m + 3 laps

- 20km men: 1100m + 14 laps

- 10km men and women: 550m + 7 laps

The scheduled races were:

- 3km youth: local time 8:50 with 5 entered athletes only

- 5km master: local time 12:30 with 20 entered athletes

- 10km: local time 11:20 with 54 entered male athletes and 41 female athletes

- 20km: local time 9:20 with 103 entered athletes

In both 10km and 20km probably would be at the start (just entered) athletes of Hong Kong and Taipei

Among the most important entered athletes are also there winners of the 2022 edition:

- in men: Ishida Subaru (date of birth Jan 4, 1999) who stopped the clock on the same circuit in 1:20:22

- in women: Nami Kumagai (date of birth Jul 9, 1996) winner in 45:35
