25/06/2022   Budapest (HUN): Barbara Olah and Mate Helebrand are the new champions of Hungary 2022

On the first day of the 127th edition of the National Athletics Championships of Hungary, which are being held in Budapest, the two track running races that awarded the title of Champion of Hungary were held.
The competitions took place at the Lantos Mihány Sportközpont. The day was sunny: 32 degrees Celsius with great humidity.
Local tradition has it that these two events take place over the 5,000m track walk distance for both men and women.

5.000m track walk women

Departure at 19:00
Seven athletes show up at the start.

In the women's competition the multiple champion Viktória Madarász missed the event. The consequence of this absence of her made victory for Barbara Oláh become obvious.
Easy victory then for Barbara Olah (HUN) who finishes her race in 22:45.58 after walking in the lead from the first meter and after her gold medal in the 20km national championships she collected another gold in the 5.000m .

The second place was also no question: Rita Récsei (23:28.89) walked alone on the silver position from the start until the end.

The owner of the bronze medal was questionable at the beginning but finally it went to the talented U20 walker, Tiziana Spiller in 25:04.47.

The judges worked hard: two girls went into the penalty zone and all of walkers got warning.

In fourth place is our personal acquaintance (Anett Torma) who gets the season best after a troubled season due to injuries in 25:46.34

Departure at 20:15
Also in the men's race there are seven athletes who show up at the start

In the mens's field played almost the same history: Máté Helebrandt dominated strong from the beginning and his winner position was not in danger. Helebrand did not betray the expectations and with a race always in the lead he stopped the clock in 19:47.52.
Also for the 33-year-old Hungarian athlete this is the season best, which however is not far from his personal set in Budapest on 22.6.2016 (19:35.82)
Second place and silver medal to Bence Barnabas Venyercsan (HUN) in 20:17.45 also in the season best
There was a big fight and tactical race for the bronze medal: Tomasz Bagdány and Norbert Tóth walked neck and neck until the ring belled. Then Tomasz forced his speed and Norbert couldn't react of it.
Third place to Tomasz Bagdany (HUN) in 20:52.18
Quarto posto a Norbert Tóth in 21:00.44.
