The 48th “Alytus 2022” Marching Festival took place today in Alytus (LTU), together with the Lithuanian National Championship on the distance of 20km and for the U20s on the distance of 10km.
20km men
Nine athletes at the start representing the following Countries: Lithuania, Latvia and Ukraine.
No difficulty for Marius Ziukas (LTU) in securing the victory with a time of 1:25:48

For the second position we saw a long battle between Arnis Rumbenieks (LAT) and Arthur Mastianica (LTU).
The two walked together up to 18km covered in 1:20:09.
In the last 2km the Latvian managed to get a little behind the Lithuanian in the penultimate km (4:37 against 4:49) and maintained the lead despite Mastianica's recovery.

20km women
Eleven athletes at the start representing the following countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Germany and Ukraine
A great solo by Olena Sobchuk (UKR) who finished the race victorious in 1:30:59

More interesting is the fight for second and third place between the two Lithuanian athletes, Brigita Virbalyte-Dimsiene and Austeja Kavaliauskaite, also valid for the title of National Champion of Lithuania.
From the first km Brigita Virbalyte obtained a slight advantage that the opponent has never been able to fully recover. At 16km the two were just 3 seconds apart (1:18:05 vs 1:18:08) but with a covered km in 4:47 Brigita Virbalyte-Dimsiene managed to put an end to the title fight.
