The National Indoor Championships of Lithuania took place yesterday in Klaipeda (LTU).
3.000m indoor walk women
Twelve athletes at the start and all completed the race.
Victory, among other things quite easy and obvious, by Brigita Virbalyte (LTU) in 12:31.60
Second place to Monica Vaiciukeviciute (LTU), the local star, in 13:01.25
Third place to Juste Perveneckaite (LTU) in 14:02.89
Brigita Virbalyte, coached by Brente Vallance, had returned from a training stage in the Dominican Republic only a few days ago and next week together with the other Lithuanian walkers she left for Muscat in Oman where she will compete in the World Team Race Walking Championship.
"It has been difficult to focus on the competition since the morning, we all know what is happening in Ukraine and I really feel it affects us individually. It was difficult to concentrate, I followed the information both yesterday and today.
This season hasn't gone the way I wanted from the start. Today's result is definitely not my personal best, I've gone faster many more times. But until today, in this situation, I am really happy with this result”, commented Brigita Virbalytė.
However, this result represents the best world performance of the 2021/2022 indoor season which until Friday was held by Katarzyna Zdzieblo (POL) who had established it in Rzeszow (POL) on 11 February last.
The list of the top ten athletes is posted below.
