26/02/2022   Melbourne (AUS): excellent results by Jemima Montag and Declan Tingay

Today the Victoria Open Athletics Championships were held on the track in Lakeside suburb of Melbourne in Australia.
We have seen two great results even though we are just starting the outdoor season, although we are in the southern hemisphere.

5.000m track walk men

Seven athletes at the start of which 1 DQ.

Victory to Declan Tingay (AUS) in 18:24.50 which represents the new personal best (previous of 18:49.92 obtained at WA Sport center in Perth, AUS on 17.12.2021).
Last season only Evan Dunfee (CAN) had done better than Declan Tingay competing in 18:39.08. So this result by the 23-year-old Australian we think will hold on for a long time at the top of the seasonal world lists.
For speed lovers we tell you that this result represents an average of 16.5km/h,  but the most important is the news national record of Australia

Second place to Rhydian Cowley (AUS) in 19:12.20 very close to his personal best of 19:09.48 obtained on this same stadium on 27.2.2021
Third place to Will Thompson (AUS), U23 athlete, in 19 26.97 which represents, also for him, the new personal best (previous of 19:43.42 obtained on this same stadium on 27.2.2021).

5.000m track walk women

Eight athletes at the start.

Splendid solo victory of Jemima Montag (AUS) in 20:17.35 which represents the new personal best (previous of 20:51.03 obtained on this same stadium on 27.2.2021).
Last season the Montag on this distance was placed in second place in the world ranking behind Chahinez Nasri (TUN) in 20:50.03.
For speed lovers we tell you that this result represents an average of 14.79 km/h.
