06/02/2022   Miraflores (PER) - The 2022 South American Walking Championship

Miraflores hosted the South American Walking Championships today

35km men

The long day in Miraflores opened as the 35km competition.
Nine athletes at the start representing Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Brazil, and the host team of Peru.

Victory to Luis Henry Campos Cruz (PER) in 2:40:18.15
Second place to Gonzalo Antonio Bustan Japon (ECU) in 2:41:54.21 which establishes his new personal best. The previous was 2:45:29 and was set only 29 days ago in Machala (ECU) when he finished third at the Ecuadorian Interclub National Championships.
Third place went to Kenny Martin Perez Parra (COL) in 2:42:50.40 also for him a new personal best. The previous was 2:48:49 and was established only 15 days ago in Boyaca (COL).
This is the common denominator of these results in the 35km: two 35km competitions by an athlete within a month is not something you read every day, let alone get the personal best in the second of the two!

35km women

Seventeen athletes at the start representing Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, and the host team of Peru.
An incredible one, two, three from the Ecuadorian team.
However, a struggle to the last meter to establish internal hierarchies.

Victory to Paola Bibiana Peres Saquipay (ECU) in 2:48:26.62.
Needless to say, but also for her a new personal best in the space of a month, and above all a new best national performance from Ecuador. The precedent was 2:59:37 and was established just 29 days ago in Machala (ECU) when she finished third at the Ecuadorian Interclub National Championships.
Second place went to Magali Beatriz Bonilla Solis (ECU) in 2:48:45.77 less than 20 seconds from the winner and also for her new personal best. The precedent was 2:53:48 and was established just 29 days ago in Machala (ECU) when she won Ecuador's Interclub National Championship.
Third place to Johanna Edelmira Ordonez Lucero in 2:49:26.63 and also for her new personal best. The precedent was 2:56:38 and was established only 29 days ago in Machala (ECU) when she finished second in the Ecuadorian Interclub National Championship.
