We thought that the activity of the year 2021 had ended, but just this morning our great friend Sergey Nochevnyy (RUS), whom we thank, informed us of an indoor competition that took place on Tuesday 28 December in Chelyabinsk (RUS).
Chelyabinsk is a city of over 1,000,000 inhabitants, the capital of the Chelyabinsk Oblast region and is the seventh largest city in Russia, while it is the second largest city in the Ural Federal District after Yekaterinburg.
The Chelyabinsk area contains the ancient settlement of Arkaim, which belonged to the Sintashta culture. In 1736 a fortress with the name of Chelyaba was founded on the site of a Bashkir village. Chelyabinsk gained city status in 1787. Chelyabinsk began to grow rapidly in the early 20th century as a result of the construction of rail links from the Russian core to Siberia, including the Trans-Siberian railway.
Chelyabinsk is the hometown of the rising star of the Russian race walking, Vasiliy Mizinov.
The Memorial dedicated to Elena Rodionova took place on Tuesday 28 December in Chelyabinsk, an interesting indoor event dedicated to young local walkers with also two open competitions on the traditional 5,000m indoor distances for both men and women.
Elena Rodionova was a strong walker from Chelyabinsk at the time of the USSR, who took second at the 1987 University World Games (5.000m track walk: 22:00:01) in Zagreb (CRO) and fourth at the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart (GER ) in the 10km in 46:28. Unfortunately, she passed away from cancer.
For the results of the U18, U16, U14 and U12 categories, we refer our readers to the official results which they can access through the link at the bottom of this page.
