After not being able to organize the competition in 2020 due to the pandemic, Unicaja Banco-Club de Atletismo Toledo has once again organized one of its two emblematic events; the road walk event of the “Espada Toledana”.
This year the competition took place on a new one kilometer circuit on Avenue de la Reconquista.
As our readers will be able to watch by browsing the Results section they will realize how this competition is felt in Toledo, offering the public a day of great entertainment with more than 300 participants from all over Spain.
In addition to the organizers, the Spanish Association of Race Walking (AEMA) wanted to combine the 1st Grand Prix of the Association itself.
The two most important competitions took place over the 5km distance.
5km road walk women
Forty-six athletes showed up at the start at 5.15 pm (10 in the U20 category, 6 in the U23 category, 16 in the Senior category and the rest of the various Master categories).
Raquel Gonzalez Campos (ESP) for the second time was the winner of the espada Toledana. The athlete from Barcelona concluded the race in 21:43 which represents the new personal best on the distance (previous of 22:08, obtained in La Coruna on 28.5.2016).
But it was not so easy for the Catalan athlete, as she had to fight a lot to get rid of Johana Ordonez (ECU) who finished a few meters away in 21:46 also for her new personal best (previous performance on track 24:32.45 obtained in Cuenca, ECU on 20.11.2016)
Third place to Mar Juarez Gallando (ESP) in 23:03 also for her new personal best (previous of 23:23 obtained in La Coruna, ESP on 28.5.2016), but also having a personal best on track of 21:50.5 of 20.3.2021 in Gara (ESP).
5km road walk men
As many as 50 athletes showed up at the start (8 of the U20 category, 8 of the U23 category, 12 of the Senior category and the rest of the various Master categories).
Great three-way fight for victory in a fast paced race.
For the first time the victory goes to Mar Tur Pico (ESP) in 19:24 which lowers by more than a minute his previous personal best of 20:29 obtained here in Toledo on 19.11.2016.
Second place to Luis Alberto Amezcua Balboa (ESP) in 19:33 who lower his previous personal best of 19:41 obtained in Guadix (ESP) on 28.12.2019.
Third place to José Manuel Perez Rubio (ESP) in 19:43 also at the new personal best (previous of 20:55 obtained in La Coruna, ESP on 8.12.2018)
