23/10/2021   Leeds (GBR): Victories of Aleksi Ojala (FIN) and Bethan Davies (GBR) in 35km of British Grand Prix






 

 

 

The Grand Prix od Race Walking 2021 organized by Andi Drake took place today in Leeds, GBR.
 
The most important race of the day was that of the 35km which, however, saw only four athletes (two men and two women) at the start.
 
 
35km men
 
Victory to Aleksi Ojala (FIN) in 2:37:57 not far from the personal best of 2:34:00 obtained in Urjala (FIN) which is also the best performance of Finland over distance.
These are his split times each 5km:
- 5km: 21:29
- 10Km: 43:20 (21:51)
- 15km: 1:05:10 (21:50)
- 20km: 1:26:50 (21:40)
- 25km: 1:52:40 (25:50) after a stop in the penalty area
- 30km: 2:14:51 (22:21)
- last 5km in 22:56
 
The second athlete at the start Jonathan Hobbs was disqualified after 10km.
 
 
35km women
 
Victory to Bethan Davies (GBR) in 3:00:24 in her first experience over this distance.
Davies always led the race with a pace slightly lower than that of Elisa Neuvonen (FIN) who finished second in 3:01:33 also in her first experience in the 35km.
 
 
In the 20km women victory of Kate Veale (IRL) in 1:41:48, while in the 10km men victory to Tom Partington (GBR) in 45:29
