25/07/2021   Huelva (ESP) - The 70th edition of the Spanish U18 track championships






 

 

Last weekend at the “Emilio Martin” stadium in Huelva (ESP) the LXX edition of the Spanish U18 Championship took place.
 
 
 
5.000m track walk U18 girls
 
The competition of the U18 girls took place on the morning of Saturday 24 July.
At the start there were 16 walkers.
 
Victory for Silvia Villar Nieto (ESP) in 23:42.69 who established the new personal best (the previous one of 23:47.86 was established in Madrid, ESP on 24.4.2021).
Second place to Lydia Ballesteros Garrote (ESP) in 23:50.86, also obtaining the new personal best (the previous one of 24:53.34 was established in L’Hospitalet, ESP on 10.7.2021).
Third place to Isabel Garcia Sanchez (ESP) in 24:12.03 also getting the new personal best (the previous one of 24:48.61 had been obtained on 13.6.2021 in Soria, ESP).
 
All the other participants finished the race as there was no disqualification.
 
 
 
10.000m track walk U18 boys
 
The competition of the U18 boys took place on the morning of Sunday 25 July.
At the start there were 15 walkers.
 
The Spanish U18 title was won by Pablo Rodriguez Rojas (ESP) in 46:09.37.
The young athlete trained by Jacinto Garzon (Maria Perez's coach) made a race aimed at victory without worrying too much about getting an improvement in his personal best of 45:55.92 obtained on 10.10.2020 in Tarragona (ESP).
Second place to Pablo Postigo Gabarro (ESP) in 46:56.36 at his first experience of this distance on track, but having established a good 45:09 in 10km road on 14.2.2021 in Seville (ESP).
Third place went to Francisco Espin Galera (ESP) in 47:08.82 also at his first experience on this distance on track, but with a 47:41 in 10km road walk established on 14.2.2021 in Seville (ESP).
 
Of the 15 athletes at the start, 13 completed the race and 2 were disqualified.
 
 
Both Silvia Villar Nieto and Pablo Rodriguez Rojas have confirmed the title of U18 Champions of Spain on track after the one obtained in Seville on 14.2.2021.
