Isamu Fujisawa (JPN), the 33-year-old representative of the men's 20km walk at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Rio de Janeiro 2016, announced today that his retirement from racing.
Fujisawa, who had finished in 18th place (first of the Rising Sun athletes), the 20km at the London Olympics and in 21st place those in Rio de Janeiro, has also participated three times in the World Championships.
His first participation in a World Championship dates back to 15.8.2009 when in the Berlin edition he finished 29th in 1:25:12.
He then finished 13th in 1:21:51 in the 2015 edition in Beijing (CHN); he finished 11th in 1:20:04 in the 2017 edition of London (GBR) both times always the first of the Japan team.
He finished the 20km 2018 Team World Championship in Taicang (CHN) in 7th place in 1:22:54 helping Toshikazu Yamanishi and Eiki Takahashi to win the gold medal for Japan.
On 21.2.2021 in Kobe (JPN) he finished 5th in the 20km of the Japan Championships after Toshikazu Yamanishi, Eiki Takahashi, Koki Ikeda and Satoshi Maruo, thus missing the selection for the Olympic Games
Finally, he was not even chosen as a replacement for the Olympic team earlier this month and therefore decided to hang up his shoes.
