Second day of the Italian U20 and U23 championships on track in Grosseto (ITA).
The two races of the 10,000m track walk of males and in the afternoon that of the U23 women are planned.
The women's U20 test will take place tomorrow morning.
10.000m track walk U20 men
Without a doubt it is the most thriller race of the morning.
The departure is given exactly at 8:01 when the temperature is not very hot yet.
There are five favorites for the victory: two athletes from 2002 (Gamba Gabriele and Breda Daniele) and three athletes from 2003 (Pietro Pio Notaristefano, Nicola Lomuscio and Emiliano Brigante).
And it is Emiliano Brigante, who among other things has the best accreditation time (41:48.25 established in Bergamo, ITA on 18.4.2021) who immediately undertakes to set the pace, but also and above all to make selection among the others.
These are his passages up to 7.000m always led in the lead:
- 1.000m: 4:08.2
- 2.000m: 8:15.5 (4:07.3)
- 3.000m: 12:27.8 (4:12.3)
- 4.000m: 16:36.0 (4:08.2)
- 5.000m: 20:45.8 (4:09.8)
- 6.000m: 25:01.3 (4:05.5)
- 7.000m: 29:18.0 (4:16.7)
The pace is prohibitive for everyone else, but in particular for Breda Daniele and Nicola Lomuscio who begin to have to deal with the red cards, and are stopped in the penalty area. Gamba Gabriele, on the other hand, is the last to break away and continues with his pace.
However, even the leader of the race Emiliano Brigante must subsequently come to terms with the work of the jury and during the eighth kilometer when he seemed to flee towards a quiet victory he was stopped for three red cards of loss of contact.
When he exits later, 1 minute plus a few seconds lost due to the deceleration resulting from entering the Penalty Zone, he finds himself in second position: Gabriele Gamba has passed him and now is about 70 meters in front of him.
The passage to 8,000, sees Gabriele Gamba in the lead in 34:22.5.
Brigante does not lose heart and continues with the same pace he had before entering the penalty area.
At 9.000m Gabriele Gamba still leads in 38:46.0 (4:23.5)
Just before the sound of the bell, Gamba is reached and overtaken by Brigante who flies towards victory.
Victory to Emiliano Brigante (ITA) in 42:56.16
Second place to Gabriele Gamba (ITA) in 43:05.39
Third place to Pietro Pio Notaristefano (ITA) in 44:22.40
Fourth place to Nicola Lomuscio (ITA) in 44:49.49 (with 1 minute penalty)
Fifth place to Daniele Breda (ITA) in 44:55.13 (also with 1 minute penalty)
10.000m track walk U23 men
Three of them immediately take the lead: Riccardo Orsoni, Davide Finocchietti and Aldo Andrei.
Orsoni leds for the first 5,000m with these splits:
- 1.000m: 4:35.2
- 2.000m: 8:53.0 (4:17.8) with a very slow pace just think that the U20s had recorded a partial of 8:15.5.
- 3.000m: 13:13.1 (4:20.1) when the U20s had recorded a partial of 12:27.8
- 4.000m: 17:34.0 (4:40.9) and still slows down compared to when the U20s recorded (16: 36.0)
- 5.000m: Riccardo Orsoni increases his cadence and passes in 21:40.2 (4:06.2). The U20s had registered 20:45.8.
After 5.000m Davide Finocchietti takes the lead.
- 6.000m: Finocchietti in the lead is followed by Aldo Andrei in 25:52.1 (4:11.9). Even better the time of the U20s who had recorded 25:01.3
- 7.000m: Aldo Andrei loses ground and begins to deal with the fatigue of last Saturday's race in La Coruna and with some technical problems. Finocchietti's passage is 30:03.5 (4:51.4), still higher than the 29:18.8 recorded by the U20s, but it has almost been reached by Riccardo Orsoni.
- 8000: finally (thanks to Emiliano Brigante's stop in the U20s in the penalty area) Davide Finocchietti's time (34:21.2; last 1.000m in 4:17.7) is better than that recorded at 8.000m by Gabriele Gamba. Orsoni follows a few meters away.
- 9.000m: just before the 9km Orsoni reaches Finocchietti who, however, returns to force the pace and takes the lead at 9.000m in 38:32.3 (4:11.1). Orsoni follows at no more than 15m.
Victory for Davide Finocchietti (ITA) with the last 1.000m in 4:05.0 for a total mark of 42:37:25
Second place to Riccardo Orsoni (ITA) in 42:40.45
Third place to Aldo Andrei (ITA) in 43:49.44
10.000m track walk U23 women
The two favorites immediately take the lead: Sara Buglisi and Vittoria Giordani.
The race becomes quite boring with the two athletes walking undisturbed for over 30 minutes of the race, until Vittoria Giordani begins to feel the fatigue of the previous week's race on the 20km distance in La Coruna and prefers to slow down the pace.
Sara Buglisi then flies towards a sure and deserved victory and with the satisfaction of doubling all the competitors (Vittoria Giordani included to the sound of the bell).
Victory to Sara Buglisi (ITA) in 48:37.27
Second place to Vittoria Giordani (ITA) in 50:48.26
Third place to Anastasia Giulioni (ITA) in 52:31:18
