08/05/2021   Guayaquil (ECU): Panamerican Walking Cup

On Friday 7 May 2021 Guayaquil (ECU) honored, with the Pan-American Cup, the memory of "Luis Chocho", one of the most successful coaches in this discipline who died in February due to Covid-19.

Chocho promoted race walking in Ecuador and led Jefferson Pérez, the only Ecuadorian to win Olympic medals so far: the gold medal in Atlanta in 1996 and the silver medal in 2008 in Beijing.

The cup was held in the Los Samanes park in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil.
The humidity and high temperatures currently prevail in Guayaquil are predicted by athletes and their coaches similar to those they will find during the competition in the Japanese city of Sapporo, where the Olympic walk will be based.

There were athletes from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, United States, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The president of the Ecuadorian Athletics Federation (FEA), Manuel Bravo, expressed great satisfaction with the participation and the excellent opportunity offered by the federation to athletes to complete the option of access to the Olympic Games.
