The head coach of the RFEA national team, Pepe Peiró, has announced the name of the fourth member who will complete the Spanish 50km walking team for the European Team Walking Championship. It will be Jesús Ángel García Bragado, who, together with Manuel Bermúdez, José Ignacio Díaz and Marc Tur, will go to Podebrady for the continental team championship in which Spain is currently second in the 50km walk.

It will be the eleventh time that “Chuso” García Bragado will compete in this competition, the traditional European Team Cup renamed the European Team Championship. He will do it twenty-five years after his debut in La Coruña in 1996, when he crossed the line in first position.

Since then, Chuso has become a legend in this competition. The Madrid-based player took the podium with #EspañaAtletismo in seven of his ten appearances. In his own record, he has two 50km team marching European championships (1996 and 1998) and five second places (2000, 2001, 2007, 2009 and 2019). Furthermore, his results have always been fundamental in helping the Spanish team, as in five of his ten appearances he finished in the top three (first in 1996, 2000 and 2001, second in 1998 and 1999)

“Chuso” will travel to the Czech Republic with the aim of obtaining points in the world rankings of the Olympic Games. His best record in this competition dates back to 2000, when he finished in 3:42:51. In his last appearance, in 2019, he finished 15th in 3:57:51. This season, he set his best time in the Spanish 50km championship held in February in Seville, where he finished in 4:04:36.

The European Team Walking Championship will be the 81st competition for Jesús Ángel García Bragado since he started his career on this distance in 1991. Of the 81 races, 65 have ended. On May 16, in Podebrady, Chuso will continue to expand his legend.
