Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA hosted the US Trials for the Pan American Race Walking Cup on Sunday 11 April 2021.
The two main races took place on the distance of 20km (men and women), while in those reserved for the U20 (men and women) the athletes competed on the 10km.
Both races took place on a 1km circuit.
10km U20 women
Only seven athletes at the start.
Undisputed victory of Angelica Harris (USA), always in the lead from the first lap, who finished her fatigue in 53:21
The athlete had passed halfway through the race in 26:10, while she covered the second half in 27:11.
Angelica Harris is a new name in US walk as there is no trace of previous competitions in World Athletics statistics.
Second place to Heather Durrant (USA) in 54:29 (26:45 + 28:14) also in her first experience over this distance.
Third place to Grace Endy (USA) in 55:02 (27:08 + 27:54)
10km U20 men
Only four athletes at the start.
Undisputed victory of Samuel Allen (USA), always in the lead from the first lap, who finished her fatigue in 44:18
The athlete had passed halfway through the race in 21:51, while she covered the second half in 22:27.
An abysmal distance between the first and second finishers, Jacob Lawson (USA) who finished the race in 52:04 (25:11 + 26:53)
Third place to Ryan Allen (USA) in 54:58 (26:32 + 28:26)
20km women
Thirteen athletes at the start.
The first half of the race sees Robyn Stevens (USA) take the lead in 48:03, followed at a short distance (48:15 +12") by Dalia Oliveras (PUR), while in third and fourth place they pass in 48:48 Maria Michta-Coffey (USA) and Miranda Melville (USA).
At 12km Dalia Oliveras (the athlete of Puerto Rico who races open) takes the leads the race together with Robyn Stevens. Their passage is 57:53, while the other two are detached and still paired (58:38).
At three quarters of the race Dalia Oliveras is still in the lead in 1:12:40m and is 8” in front of Robyn Stevens, while for the third place Maria Michta-Coffey (1:13:38) is still together with Miranda Melville.
At 16km the advantage of Dalia Oliveras over Robyn Stevens is only 9” and the game still seems to be playing, but just before the passage to 17km Robyn Stevens is stopped for 120” in the Penalty Area.
Green light therefore for the first three positions of the podium (and to represent the USA at the Pan American Games) to the other three contenders, as at the time of returning to dara after the penalty Robyn Stevens is in fourth position 51" behind the third who is Miranda Melville.
Victory then to Dalia Oliveras (PUR) in 1:37:26
Second place to Maria Michta-Coffey (USA) in 1:38:47
Third place to Miranda Melville (USA) in 1:39:20
Fourth place to Robyn Stevens (USA) in 1:39:54 who manages to recover only 17" compared to the gap of 51".
