The Finals of the National Club Championships were held in Spain.
The finals took place in four different venues as follows:
- Madrid VLL: hosted the women's final of the Iberdrola Golden Cup
- Madrid VLL: hosted the women's final of the Iberdrola Silver Cup
- Caceres: hosted the men's final of 2nd category A
- Madrid MTZ: hosted the men's final of 2nd category B
All the walking events took place on Saturday 5.9.2020 and all on the distance of 5.000m track walk.
Iberdrola Gold Cup - women - 5.000m track walk
The most important of the women's competitions saw the victory of Maria Perez Garcia (ESP) in 22:22.17 in a fairly easy race for the Spanish athlete who boasts a personal best of 20:38.16 established in Granollers (ESP) on 14.7.2018
Second place to Julia Takacs Nyerges (ESP) in 22:36.4
Third place to Mar Juarez Gallardo (ESP) in 25:13.74
As soon as the first lap was completed, both Julia Takacs and María Pérez lead the group. They soon left the other five participants behind. The Granada-born woman passed first in the first kilometer after being behind at the start. They were taking over to keep up the pace and in the next kilometer their main rival passed first to win this race.
It was after covering the third kilometer, when María Pérez changed the pace to put meters away on Takacs, that she could not respond to that acceleration in the walk.
María Pérez did not slow down and was able to increase the distance a little more. She pressed until the end and the victory did not escape her. Takacs, more specialized in long distance, was fourteen seconds behind.
