31/07/2020   Postponement rescheduled and definite cancellation

The World Athletics Council has approved new dates for the World U20 Championships Nairobi 2020 and the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships Minsk 2020.

The World U20 Championships will now be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 17 to 22 August, 2021, one week after the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Under the competition’s rules, athletes aged 16, 17, 18 or 19 years on 31 December, 2021 will be eligible to compete.

The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships have been rescheduled for 23-24 April, 2022 in Minsk, Belarus.

This is therefore a two-year postponement, for the former World Race Walking Cup which was originally scheduled between 2 and 3 May this year and which had been suspended due to the ongoing challenges created by the spread of the COVID-19 internationally.

We take the opportunity of these two updates in the World Athletics international calendar to also announce the definitive cancellation for the year 2020 of one of the most loved events by international athletes: "Around Taihu International Race Walking 2020". Its programming and was originally scheduled for the period between 26 and 28 September 2020, even after a survey among athletes on the possibility of a move in late October or early November.

Unfortunately, with the current pandemic situation in existence practically all over the world, it remains extremely difficult to guarantee total safety for all participants, not to mention the quarantine issues imposed on foreign athletes.

A real shame because this would have been the eighth edition of what had now become the end-of-season classic.

See you in 2021.
