28/07/2020   Ostia (ITA): A beautiful and complete 20km test






 

 

 

Our most assiduous readers will certainly know that at least in the last five years during the winter stage of the national team of China in San Lorenzo al Mare, near Sanremo, Italy, this training moment for us is also a moment of technical meeting that has given us allowed to observe and debate the race walk of those top athletes.

 
Sandro Damilano, with his obsessive data collection, together with his main collaborators Wang Yinhang and Sun Chao has always been very prodigal in providing us with the times of the athletes' split times in the tests carried out, the lactate volumes when carried out and so on.
 
We had wondered, knowing that even in Italy some elite athletes' coaches do the same, if we would have ever been in possession of these data for a training of at least some of the top athletes.
 
The occasion was given to us by a phone call (to the most naughty among us who will say: "always a phone call" we reply with a phrase borrowed from a successful advertising spot of past years: "a phone call extends life) with Patrizio Parcesepe who trains this season:
- 50km: Andrea Agrusti and Marco De Luca
- 20km: Francesco Fortunato and Massimo Stano
- women: Mariviattoria Becchetti and Antonella Palmisano.
 
When we learned that Sunday, July 26th he would do a test race on 20km with five of his athletes (only Mariavittoria Becchetti absent), we wooed him a bit so that he would let us participate in the amount of data he would have collected in this training test and we only of what are now the standard steps every 5km of the race.
 
Patrizio Parcesepe, with whom we dealt with, accepted our proposal by specifying that the test should be understood as a race simulation in compliance with current regulations regarding COVID-19.
His goal was to stimulate athletes after a long period of competitive inactivity during 2020, in addition, of course, also to checking their current physical conditions.
 
All this with a view to providing our readers with a possible high-quality work tool.
 
 
 
Place, course and team
 
Inside the Castelporziano Sports Center of the Guardia di Finanza, where a course of exactly 2km has been obtained, unfortunately with many curves.
The team was made up of Patrizio Parcesepe, Lorenzo Dessì and physiopterapist Cristian Bruno.
The maximum height difference in the lap course was 2 meters from a minimum of 22m. at a maximum of 24m. on sea level

Performances of athletes
 
For each athlete were detected:
- Split time each 2km lap
- The progressives mark per lap
- The split times and the progressive 5km each
was also detected for each athlete every 5km, the relative RPE (Rate of Perceived Exsertion or Borg scale), which is used to evaluate the subjective perception of physical effort in relation to the entity or intensity of the same during physical activity
 
The data on the perception of temperature (Thermal Sensation) and thermal Comfort (Fhermal Confort) were also collected which, although being very subjective sensations, depend substantially on the temperature and, even more on the humidity rate.
