National Trophy by Provinces and Chinese Cup 2020 "Jinzhou Bank"
The first (official) post-Covid race in China will be held on Wednesday 29 July called the National Trophy by provinces, Chinese Cup 2020 and sponsored by the "Jinzhou Bank"
It is an invitation race only for the four national groups. The competitions will be held in Jinzhou, Liaoning Province, a city of 3,000,000 inhabitants on the east coast of China facing North Korea. The climate is monsoon type. This year, a heat wave from the Gobi desert has raised temperatures and humidity a lot. The forecasts for Wednesday give a temperature at 8.00 in the morning of 28°C and a humidity of around 70%.
They are certainly not optimal conditions for walking.
In the days preceding the competitions, all athletes on the list of participants will be subjected to the COVID-19 medical swab.
The scheduled races are: 20 km. men and women; 35 km. men. Almost all the best Chinese athletes are registered. Big absent is Liu Hong. Other important names not present at the races are: Yang Liujing (3rd in the women's 20km in Doha); Yin Jaxing (9th in the last World Championships in Doha); Niu Wenbin and Lu Yadong (4th and 5th in 50km at World Championships in Qatar).
In 20km. men are to be mentioned:
Wang Kaihua (1994): who has a 1:17:54 personal best obtained in 2017. He is currently in 13th place in the World Rankings. He finished second in the 2018 Taicang World Cup and 8th in Doha;
Xu Hao (1999): winner of the Military World Cup in Wuhan last October. It boasts a 1:19:57 personal best obtained in 2019 and is currently in 21st position in the World Rankings;
Cai Zelin (1991): Olympic vice-champion in Rio. He has a personal best of 1:18:47 obtained back in 2012. In MarciadalMondo's ranking on the average of the 10 best results he is in 12th place overall with the mark of 1:19:25 and 4th in the ranking of the last decade. The season best of the 2019 is 1:19:36.
Zhang Jun (1998): last year he finished 6th at the University Games of Naples. It boasts a personal best of 1:20:16 (2019). He is in 41st position in the World Rankings.
Chen Ding (1992): Olympic champion in London 2012. He boasts a 1:17:40 personal obtained in 2012.
At the start thirteen athletes with a a personal best in 2019 under 1:21:00.
In 35km. men headlights focused on:
Wang Qin (1994): 2019 world military champion in Wuhan. He has a personal best over 50km. of 3:38:02 and of 2:33:18 over 35km. He DNF to the Doha 2019. He is currently in 15th position in the World Rankings.
Wang Rui (1996): has a personal best of 3:42:08 over 50km. and 2:33:18 over 35km. He is in 20th position in the World Rankings
In 20km. women great duel between:
Yang Yiayu (1996): world champion in London 2017. First at the 2018 Asian Games. She was disqualified in the final in Doha last year. 4th in the World Rankings. She boasts a 1:25:34 personal best obtained in 2019.
Qieyang Shenijie (1990): called "the eternal second". She was silver at the 2012 London Olympics; at the 2019 Doha World Championships; in the 2016 and 2018 World Team Championships and at the 2018 Asian Games. She also obtained the bronze medal at the 2011 Daegu World Championships. She is also second in the World Rankings. Her personal best is 1:25:16 obtained in the London 2012 Olympic race. She walked in Huangshan in 1:25:37 last year.
Ma Zhenxia (1998): Asian champion last year. In U16 and U18 categories she won everything she could win. She is in 7th position in the World Rankings. She has a 1:28:00 personal best established in 2019.
