Following the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics, the World Athletics Championships are also postponed for a year.

The next edition will take place in Eugene, Oregon (United States), from 15 to 24 July 2022.

This is the decision communicated today by World Athletics for the world championship which was initially scheduled in 2021 (from 6 to 15 August) after discussing the topic with the organizers of two other international events scheduled in two years, the Commonwealth Games Birmingham (27 July-7 August) and the multi-sport European Championships in Munich (11-21 August).

The 2022 season will therefore have all three events scheduled for the same summer: an unprecedented fact.
