As already reported with our news of 8.3.2020 ( click here ), on Sunday 12 April 2020 the 104th edition of the 50km Japan National Championships should have taken place in Wajima (JAP), also valid for the third and last selection for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The postponement decided yesterday of the Olympic Games in the first part of 2021 does not currently prevent the JAAP National Championship from taking place, as for Kobe in February and Nomi in March, will take place albeit in a reduced form.
The Japanese federation, together with the Local Organizing Committee, has decided to cancel only the the races over the distances of 10km reserved for the U20 following the postponement of the U20 World Championship.
Consequently, the youth races over the distances of 5km and 3km were also canceled.
However, it is good news to know that Wajima's 50km race will take place.
During the 2020 season the following 50km took place:
- January 1: Hong Kong (HKG)
- January 19: Sxinias, Marathonas (GRE)
- January 25: Santee, California (USA)
- January 26: Porto de Mos (POR)
- February 16: Torrevieja (ESP)
- February 16: Ranchi (IND)
- March 7: Lima (PER)
The best seasonal result is that of Ruslan Smolonskis (LAT) obtained in Torrevieja (ESP) with a time of 3:56:02.
