11/03/2020   Jeff Salvage and Gary Westerfield: How to Judge Race Walking Video

Recently the USA Race Walking Foundation has proposed the first version of "How to Judge Race Walking Video", an interesting project written by Jeff Salvage and Gary Westerfield, with the collaboration of others, which acts as a free resource to help make people understand how a race walking video should be judged and interpreted.

The authors will add many more examples and further instructions on assessment procedures to the current video over time.

This video which in our opinion is of particular interest, because it has the advantage of showing separately:
- the technical gesture of runners
- the technical gesture of pedestrian
- the technical gesture of the slow pace walkers
- the technical gesture of the fast pace walkers

These technical gestures are then also compared.

The video analysis then continues on the errors:
loss of contact, which is detailed and analyzed at different speeds based on groups of thousandths of seconds (1/1000sec) of contact loss
bent knee, which is analyzed according to the various angles

The last part of the video, at the moment, consists of the judgment of the individual judge and the functioning of the jury.

We asked for the approval to be able to publish Marcia dal Mondo on our website.
We thank them for giving it to us.

We are sure it will be of great interest.
