In what was the last championship of Spain on the road for the distance of 50 km, Iván Pajuelo and Mar Juárez, were proclaimed in Torrvieja champions of Spain.
The city of Alicante, Torrevieja, which has already hosted another edition of this championship 21 years ago, has devoted itself completely starting from the same town hall together with all the institutions, as well as groups and volunteers of the city and, above all, the great organizational work Torrevieja Athletics Club in an edition that gathered up to 400 demonstrators in a new demonstration of the good health of this specialty that has given so many successes and continues to give Spanish athletics.
It was an edition that will go down in history for being the last one on the 50 km distance because from next year this race will be lowered to 35 km. And the honor of closing the medal winners on this mythical distance fell on two protesters who had never managed to register their name in the championship record because Iván Pajuelo and Mar Juárez debuted with two very bright victories.
50km men
In the male race, with the participation of some specialized walkers of 20 km in list with the aim of making a trial walk and without the intention of ending the race. This is how Alberto Amezcua started in the head, who clearly took advantage of his rivals, where he formed another group with Miguel Ángel López from Murcia and some foreign luxury presence such as the Guatemalan Erick Bernabé Barrondo and the Irish Alex Wright and then the group of favorites who would have really fought for the title at this distance of 50 km.
They were crossing the kilometers with subsequent withdrawals of the walkers who had already left their clear intentions to perform part of the test as a set-up and in the lead were Iván Pajuelo and Álvaro Martín which, although it did not seem that their intention was to finish the race. But they were encouraged to continue to the end.
In front there was only the Lithuanian Ruslans Smolonskis who would later be the winner with a time of 3:56.02; not far away the two arrived with Pajuelo to rank ahead of his career partner for so many kilometers and become champion with a time of 3:57:22.
In two seconds (3:57:24) the current 20km European champion Álvaro Martín, of course, is his personal best in a performance to take off his hat where he had the great detail of helping and supporting his partner towards him finish line; the podium was completed by an euphoric Manuel Bermúdez, a young athlete from Murciano who also concluded with a personal score of 4:10:03. Great hat-trick for the Murcia coach José Antonio Carrillo who brings home all three medals.
50km women
The women's event had a single protagonist in the Catalan Mar Juarez who dominated the race from start to finish.
The walker trained by the great Valentin Massana, like other companions like María Pérez or Julia Takacs, arrived in the city of Alicante with the intention of conducting a long distance test.
As she herself stated at the end of the race, after seeing how her time was between 30km and 35km, she decided on the fly to continue to see that she could make a great result: and so it was, pulverizing her personal best in more than eight minutes and with 4:15:46 and now position itself as the third best Spanish of all time in this short history of the women's 50km walk after the aforementioned Takacs and Raquel González, both champions of Spain in previous editions.
As a prize for Juarez, his pre-selection for the Minsk World Team Championship.
Second was Ainhoa Pinedo, who suffered a lot in the last few kilometers to finish at 4:40:45 and third Olga Cabrera very happy with a record of 5:00:39 improving his previous personal record in almost five minutes.

En el que ha sido el último Campeonato de España de marcha en ruta sobre la distancia de 50km marcha, Iván Pajuelo y Mar Juárez, se han proclamado campeones de España en Torrvieja.
La ciudad alicantina de Torrevieja, que ya acogiera otra edición de este campeonato hace 21 años, se ha volcado por completo comenzando desde el mismo Ayuntamiento junto con todas las instituciones así como grupos y voluntarios de la ciudad y, sobre todo, el gran trabajo organizativo del Club Atletismo Torrevieja en una edición que ha reunido hasta 400 marchadores en una nueva demostración de la buena salud de esta especialidad que tantos éxitos ha dado y sigue dando al atletismo español.
Ha sido una edición que pasará a la historia por ser la última que se ha disputado sobre la distancia de 50km pues a partir del próximo año esta prueba se bajará hasta los 35km. Y el honor de cerrar el palmarés sobre esta mítica distancia ha recaído en dos marchadores que nunca habían logrado inscribir su nombre en el palmarés de campeones pues tanto Iván Pajuelo como Mar Juárez. se han estrenado con dos victorias muy brillantes.
50km hombres
En la prueba masculina, con participación de algunos marchadores especialistas de 20km en liza con el objetivo de hacer una prueba test y sin la intención de finalizar la prueba; así comenzó en cabeza el granadino Alberto Amezcua que tomó clara ventaja sobre sus rivales, donde por detrás se formaba otro grupo con el murciano Miguel Ángel López y alguna presencia extranjera de lujo como el gautemalteco Erick Bernabé Barrondo y el irlandés Alex Wright y a continuación el grupo de favoritos que realmente lucharían por el título en esta distancia de 50km.
Fueron pasando los kilometros con sucesivas retiradas de los marchadores que ya habían dejado sus claras intenciones de realizar parte de la prueba como puesta a punto y en cabeza quedaron los extremeños Iván Pajuelo y Álvaro Martín que aunque no parecía que su intención fuera acabar la prueba, se animó a seguir hasta el final; por delante sólo quedaba el lituano Ruslans Smolonnskis que sería el vencedor finalmente con un tiempo de 3:56.02; no muy lejos llegaban por detrás los dos extremos donde Pajuelo se adelantaba a su compañero de carrera durante tantos kilómetros para proclamarse campeón con una marca de 3:57:22 y a dos segundos (3:57:24) el actual campeón de Europa de 20km Álvaro Martín que, por supuesto, es su marca personal en una actuación para quitarse el sombrero donde tuvo el gran detalle de ayudar y apoyar a su compañerro hasta la misma línea de meta; el podio lo completaba un eufórico Manuel Bermúdez, joven atleta murciano que finalizaba también con marca personal de 4:10:03. Gran triplete para el entrenador murciano José Antonio Carrillo que se lleva las tres medallas para casa.
50km mujeres
La prueba femenina ha tenido una única protagonista en la marchadora catalana Mar Juárez que de principio a fin ha dominado la prueba; la marchadora entrenada por el gran Valentín Massana, al igual que otras compañeras como María Pérez o Julia Takacs, llegaba a la localidad alicantina con la intención de realizar una prueba test de larga distancia pero en ningún momento continuar hasta el final pero como ella misma declaró al finalizar la carrera, tras ver como iba de tiempo entre el 30 y el 35 decidió sobre la marcha continuar viendo que podría hacer una gran marca: y así fue, pulverizando su marca personal en más de ocho minutos y con 4:15:46 colocarse ahora mismo como la tercera mejor española de todos los tiempos en esta corta historia de los 50km marcha femenino tras la citada Takacs y Raquel González, ambas campeonas de España en las ediciones precedentes. Como premio para Juárez, su pre-selección para el Campeonato del Mundo por Equipos de Minsk.
Segunda fue Ainhoa Pinedo, que sufrió mucho en los últimos kilómetros para acabar en 4:40:45 y tercera una contentísima Olga Cabrera con un registro de 5:00:39 mejorando en casi cinco minutos su anterior tope personal.
