05/04/2019   Sydney (AUS): Dane Bird-Smith and Katie Hayward Australian champions on track






Yesterday in the late Australian evening, the fifth session of the Australian track championships ended with the two race walking events.

 
The two race races took place at 20:10 on the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Center track.
 
 
10.000m women's track walk
 
Eight athletes at the start.
 
Victory for Katie Hayward (AUS) in 43:23.65
The young Australian athlete who is not yet 19 years old (will turn her birthday on July 23rd) has shattered her personal best of 44:49.27 which was established at the beginning of the current season, on January 28th, 2009, in Canberra (AUS).
This performance is also the new record of the Australian Track Championships that until yesterday was held by Jemima Montag (AUS) with a time of 43:48.08 and dated back to the 2016 edition.
 
The following is the progression on the distance of 10,000m track walk of the young Australian star.

Eleven athletes at the start, of which ten completed the race and one DNF.
 
Victory for Dane Bird-Smith (AUS) in 38:30.61
This result also represents the new personal best of the 20km Olympic bronze. The prevoius was always obtained in the Australian Championships on track in Sydney on March 31, 2017 and therefore also Bird-Smith establishes the new record of the Championships.
