10/01/2019   Porto de Mos (POR): the road walk championships of Portugal






The month of January as usual hosts in Portugal the National Road Walk Championship of 35km and 50km.

 
Also this year the Championship will be hosted in Porto de Mos, city in the region of Leiria, just over halfway between the famous Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima and the beautiful complex of the Monastery of Alcobaça where is the tomb of the unknown soldier of Portugal.
 
The time program will be as follows:
- 9:00 am: departure of the 35km and the 50km (with also included the race of the 20km valid for the Championship of Portugal Master)
- 10.00: start of 20km (senior and U23 men) - 15km (senior and U23 women) - 10km U20 and U18 (men and women)
with some minor events that will be held at 9:30 and after 10km.
 
This year, which was already known through Social Networks, there will be neither 50-35km nor 20km at the start Ines Henriques who in Porto de Mos on January 15th, 2017 set the first of his two world records on 50km (4:08.26) and then repeated at the World Championships in London (4:05:56).
The athlete from Rio Maior decided for a period of stop.
The 50km of women will see only Sandra Silva at the start, but will be accompanied, at least up to 35km from Alexandra Lamas, Nadia Cancela and Mara Ribeiro.
 
In the 50km of the men there are seven registered athletes, among which the names of Joao Vieira and Pedro Isidro stand out. The 35km of men will see sixteen athletes at the start.
 
The participation in the men's and women's 20km is more crowded and in the 15km women in which four athletes from the Club Oriental of Pechao will compete (Ana Cabecinha, Edna Barros, Carolina Costa and Maria Bernardo) and will come back to compete after the maternity Vera Santos.
 
The first two weeks of January saw the return to the running races of Liu Hong and now of Vera Santos: congratulations mommies!
